Windows 7 – Upgrade From Windows XP
you can make an appointment for help here.
Below you will find a link to a video explaining the process of upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7.
WARNING: Upgrading from XP to Windows 7 is not easy. It requires a lot of time and preparation. It also requires some in depth knowledge of XP.
In most cases, many consumers are using computers that don’t meet the Microsoft Minimum System Requirements to run Windows 7. Or, after running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and you have checked the Windows 7 Compatibility site, you find that there are issues with doing the upgrade, then DON”T waste your time trying to upgrade. If you do, you will have a bad experience and maybe you will hate Microsoft. But, it’s not Microsoft’s fault. It will be yours for attempting to put a jet engine in an economy car.
If you can’t upgrade, you may be asking why didn’t Microsoft make it possible?
First, many of the companies that make sound cards, video cards, network cards, etc have not created drivers for Windows Vista/Windows 7 for your particular model of computer (check the Driver and Software Download page or your manufacturer for your model number).
Windows 7 has a lot of drivers built in, but not for every device in every computer. If you can’t find Vista compatible drivers your your model of computer, you CAN NOT upgrade. The system requirements of your computer is the single biggest issue you face.
The next issues that you will face is knowing where your disks are for all of the software that is installed on your XP computer. Don’t know where they are? You can’t upgrade unless you are willing to live without that software.
Oh, and any manufacturer specific software that came with will also be gone unless the offer it for download from their website.
Now, you need a big enough external hard disk to create an image of your XP computer. If you don’t create an image and you find that the Windows 7 does not work, you CAN NOT GO BACK to you XP installation as you know it.
My recommendation? If you are an average home user (I’m not talking to gear heads) running Windows XP don’t even bother considering upgrading. XP will be supported until 2014. Keep it updated and keep using XP until you can afford to buy a new computer with Windows 7 pre-installed.
Also, in the comment section of the following upgrade video there are many suggestions to short cut or hack the upgrade. Ignore them. They are hacks and meant for techies who have an in depth knowledge of XP.
