Fixing a Browser Highjack
From the Mailbox:
Phil asks:
When I go onto Firefox or Internet Explore I will get another web site attack me I have uninstalled Firefox and run various Virus programs and still I will get attacked by another web site, sometimes it seams like the attacking site is similar to the site I’m in, for example I was doing Genealogy and the site that came on was also the same type of site.
I am using Bell Internet Security and have tried a bunch of other virus programs with no luck
Any Ideas how I can get rid of this

Hi Phil,
I’m not sure if you listen to Website Wednesday Night. If you do, thank you. If you don’t then let me mention that we talk about the solution to this and many other types of infections weekly.
First, the infection you have got is not a virus. It is some other form of malware (malicious software).
To clean up your computer and maintain its health on a regular basis, go to my website, http://savemybutt.com, click on the Downloads link in the menu at the top.
Download and print the Savemybutt Weekly Utilities Instructions. Then follow them completely from top to bottom.
All of the software used in the instructions if free and available for download right on the Downloads page.
I am confident that if you do these steps now and regularly, your computer will remain pretty healthy.

I cannot connect to mozilla firefox. I get an answer firefox cant establish a conn. to the sever at en-ds.start 3 mozilla.com check computs network conn.
Finally got mine fixed (?) It was caused by “Alureon” and solved by Kaspersky’s TDSS Killer free on their site.
This may or may not be the exact situation but sounds identical to my problems which I’ve been unable to solve:

I’ve been having the same problems. When it happened a few weeks ago Malwarebyte cleaned it up. This time I’ve tried numerous antivirus programs including the sequence on Savemybutt–nothing works. Coincidentally? … Defender has been changed from auto to manual load and I get Host Service errors. Host script appears to be OK. I’ve checked the add-ons for the browser but not quite sure I know what to do there…some do not allow me to disable which seems suspicious….Any help would be appreciated.
iobit security 360
http://download.cnet.com/IObit-Security-360/3000-8022_4-10967594.html
just remember to update database and do smart scan and full scan, it found like 40 spy problems after i enabled passive defense
download IOBIT security 360 from cnet free. theres a seting under tools that allow you to select “passive defense” and you enable all of the areas and i you have problems enabling firefox then look to your left on the same screen where it says “firefox protection, and select “cookies” and a new screen will pop up and you should manually select all 280 tracking cookies that is responsible for redirecting your browser. This should stop the redirections, and then update your database and do a smart scan, and restart computer. periodically check the “passive defense” to make sure these are selected and “applied” i suggest also downloading from this site Malwarebytes anti spyware
I also am being hijacked by other sites. I followed all the steps exactly as you had suggested for Phil. The computer goes to a couple sites fine and then starts throwing out crap. Anything else you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thank You – Sara
